Drake’s ‘Views’ Sells 1.2 Million Opening Week

Early estimates predicted Drake would move 1.2 million units opening week, and they were spot-on. New reports confirm Drizzy sold that amount including streaming album equivalents (485,000 in just album sales). More than a million units and 200 million streams came from the U.S.A.

In response to Views colossal numbers, the BeyHive are up in arms. It took just 24 hours for Drake to dethrone Queen B. Beyonce dropped her new visual album Lemonade on April 23 and debuted with impressive numbers. The final tally reports the “Hold Up” singer moved 653,000 equivalent album units opening week, but that’s nothing compared to what Drake has achieved.

Views debuted as an Apple Music exclusive last Friday (April 29) and according to Republic Records, opened with 630,000 equivalent album units in 24 hours. “That’s the first time that I’ve ever done that,” Drake told the crowd at his album release party inside the La Vie Toronto nightclub. Sorry, Meek Mill. This proves Drake is at the top of his game; his best-selling record previous to this was 2013’s Nothing Was The Same.

It could potentially shatter Justin Timberlake’s massive opening week for The 20/20 Experience when he debuted with 968,000 units. Drizzy’s album will certainly knock Beyonce from the No. 1 spot next week, and the Beygency can’t take. They claim Apple purposely glitched the system to block fans from purchasing Lemonade during Drake’s premiere to ensure him a No. 1. To retaliate, #AppleSabotagingBeyonce began trending on Twitter.
